Br. Eric Michael is the Brother-in-Charge at Little Portion Friary. He recently was living abroad in London and has been settling into his new position. He is excited about the growth of the order and the movement of the novitiate to New York.
Br. Leo Anthony is the sacristan, novice tutor and assistant guardian at Little Portion Friary. He is also responsible for the Franciscan Bookshop.
Brother Dunstan is on the Diocesan Commision on Ministry. At 87 years old and over 50 years in profession, he is the keeper of our collective memory. During the spring and summer, he works constantly in the garden and in the winter, he curates one of the largest model train installations on Long Island. He also does spiritual direction and retreat work. This summer, he's off to Barbados for the first Anglican Cursillo on that island.
Brother Ambrose Cristobal is in the second year of the novitiate. He's an accomplished pianist, works at Pax Cristi, the local homeless shelter, and is assistant sacristan. His spirituality is informed by his Japanese roots as well as his considerable learning in New Testament history and theology. He does days of reflection and workshops as well as outside preachments.
Brother Maximilian Kolbe lives at Little Portion Friary. He works in the sacristy, walks in the woods, plays music on a banjo, and learns to love. Br. Max is currently discerning a call to the priesthood.
Br. Richard Jonathan is both the Vocation Director and Novice Guardian. After seven years spent in San Francisco, he and the novitiate program was transferred to Little Portion Friary. He offers his extensive experience in teaching, preaching and retreat work to the local diocese and to our many wonderful guests who experience hospitality here at the friary. He remains committed to ministry to the LGBT community, working with the local Dignity Chapter and advocating for marriage equality.
Br. James-Paul comes to us from southern California where he studied History and Religious Studies, and worked in the tourist/entertainment field. He was raised Roman Catholic, and felt the call to the Episcopal Church around 2005. He entered the community, at first arriving at San Damiano Friary in early 2010. He greatly enjoyed his time there, especially those opportunities he had to work at St. Martin de Porres House of Hospitality and the Lunch Bunch feeding program at Church of the Advent of Christ the King. He was moved, along with the Novitiate to Little Portion Friary in August of 2010. He is taking up responsibilities as the assistant Sacristan. He is engaging completely in the Ministry of Hospitality, and also taking full advantage of the more contemplative nature of Little Portion Friary.
